Caption Health wants to use its software to make specialty diagnostics accessible for every patient exam. Specifically, Caption AI lets health care providers who don鈥檛 have specialized training perform ultrasounds and get diagnostic-quality images.

The idea behind Caption AI is that ultrasounds are important for diagnosing cardiac function, but require health care professionals with an 鈥渆xpert eye鈥 to perform them, per the company’s website. Caption AI provides guidance for ultrasounds and captures the best images, making them accessible to more patients.
The new funding will be used to improve the company鈥檚 AI platform, create new partnerships and grow its commercial operations, according to a statement from the company.
“This capital will enable us to scale our collaborations with leading research institutions, regional health systems and other providers by making ultrasound available where and when it is needed鈥攁cross departments, inside and outside the hospital,鈥 Caption Health CEO Charles Cadieu said in statement. 鈥淎s the world’s first and only AI-guided ultrasound technology, our goal is to enable all clinicians–regardless of prior experience鈥攖o capture diagnostic-quality ultrasounds.鈥
The Series B round was led by . Existing investor also participated, as did new investors and .
The company counts Northwestern Medicine, Alina Health, the Minneapolis Heart Institute, and Edwards among its partners, according to Caption Health鈥檚 website.
The company, which was founded in 2013, is based in Brisbane, California.
